SoundAssist

For X32, M32, X Air, WING, Soundcraft Ui & Yamaha

The soundcheck that thinks ahead.

SoundAssist steps through your channels one by one, sets the gain, analyzes the sound, finds mics with reversed polarity and hunts down feedback – then suggests what to do on the console. Preview first, then apply: nothing changes without your click.

Demo mode Try it without a console – for every console type, with simulated feedback and a snare with reversed polarity.

Features

Everything that happens before the first song.

From gain staging to room measurement – every function for all channels or for just one.

Guided soundcheck

Channel by channel: solo, voice announcement to the band, gain staging, sound analysis, phase check of mic pairs. All suggestions are collected in the Soundcheck tab.

Gain staging

Measures peak levels and sets the gain to the target value. Clipping is caught immediately.

Sound & EQ

Low cut, up to four EQ bands with bell or high shelf, compressor including knee and gain – against resonances, mud and harshness, leaving room for the vocals.

Phase

Compares two channels such as kick in/out or overheads, finds mics with reversed polarity and time offsets, and suggests polarity or delay.

Feedback

Detects ringing and notches it narrowly in the EQ of the main, a monitor bus or a matrix.

Room

Pink noise from the console’s oscillator (or played in yourself), measurements at several positions, correction in the main EQ.

Automix

Rides the faders within a narrow range. Vocals take priority.

Spectrum analyzer

A separate window with a large spectrum: any input on your computer or the console’s RTA, as bars, line or spectrogram, with peak hold and level history.

Loudness

dB(A) now, Leq over a time window, maximum and a warning at the limit. Can be calibrated against a reference sound level meter.

AI assistant

“Vocals too thin” or “more keys in monitor 2” – Claude suggests the matching console changes, carried out only after you confirm.

Profiles

Per band or venue: save and reload channel roles, calibration, room EQ and input routing.

Mute groups

The console’s mute groups as buttons, with their channels. Channels muted by a group are dimmed.

Supported consoles

From the X32 to the Yamaha TF.

SoundAssist knows what each console can do over the network. Anything that can’t be controlled remotely is hidden or shown as “set by hand” – you still get the analysis.

Behringer X32 · Midas M32

all models

Full feature set: 32 channels, buses, matrices, six mute groups, oscillator and RTA. Audio via the X-USB card.

Behringer X Air · Midas MR

XR18, XR16, XR12, MR18, MR12

16 channels, up to 6 buses, 4 mute groups. Phase check with polarity only; for room measurement, play in the noise yourself. XR16/XR12/MR12 need a separate audio interface.

Behringer WING

WING, WING Compact, WING Rack

40 channels, 16 buses, 8 matrices, 8 mute groups. No RTA over the network and no oscillator – spectrum and analyses via USB.

Soundcraft Ui new

Ui24R, Ui16, Ui12

Up to 24 channels, 10 aux, 6 mute groups. Master and aux with 31-band graphic EQ. Ui16/Ui12 need a separate audio interface.

Yamaha DM3 · TF new

DM3, TF1, TF3, TF5, TF-Rack

Fader, mute, pan, sends, mute groups and levels over the network. You set EQ, compressor and polarity by hand based on the suggestions; on the TF, gain as well.

Without a console

Demo mode

Simulates the selected console type including audio – for trying things out and getting to know it before it counts.

SoundAssist finds X32, X Air and WING on the network by itself; Soundcraft and Yamaha you connect by IP. new Support for Soundcraft Ui and Yamaha is based on the manufacturers’ documentation and has not yet been tested with real hardware on every model – reports are welcome.

Channel view

Tap a channel name – and you see everything.

Live spectrum with the last analysis for comparison, level, fader, gain, pan, compressor, polarity and delay – all adjustable right there.

  • Drag EQ bands directly in the curve: horizontal for frequency, vertical for gain, mouse wheel for Q
  • Compressor with transfer curve: drag threshold and ratio, the live level moves along, plus the estimated gain reduction and its history
  • Polarity at the push of a button, delay with acoustic path in meters
  • Spectrum via USB from the audio signal or from the console’s built-in RTA – even without a cable
  • Gain staging, sound analysis and phase check for this channel only; stereo pairs are handled together
  • The same for the master: Main LR with EQ, compressor and spectrum

Sound analysis

Suggestions you understand.

The analysis is rule-based and tells you why it suggests something – “Resonance at 400 Hz: narrow cut by 8 dB”. It uses free EQ bands first and tells you when an occupied one has to give way. For mic pairs like kick in/out, polarity and delay are added.

Every suggestion has a split button Preview | Apply: Preview sets the values on the console temporarily, tapping again restores the previous state. This also works for “Apply all”.

If you like, Claude adds an AI assessment: a rating per channel, an overall impression and complete settings for low cut, compressor and EQ. Claude only sees measurements – audio is never sent.

Spectrum analyzer

A large spectrum wherever you need it.

The analyzer opens in a separate window – for example on a second screen next to the console.

  • Source: any input of any audio device on your computer – with channel names for the console’s USB – or the console’s RTA for every channel and Main LR
  • RTA bars (1/3 or 1/6 octave), line (1/12 or 1/24 octave) or spectrogram
  • Averaging fast or slow, weighting Z, A or C, peak hold
  • Level with peak, RMS, maximum and the history of the last minute

How it works

Four steps to your soundcheck.

  1. Install & launch

The interface opens in your browser. A fader icon in the menu bar or system tray brings it back at any time.

  2. Connect the console

Put your computer and the console on the same network. SoundAssist finds X32, X Air and WING by itself, Soundcraft and Yamaha by IP. One click connects.

  3. Connect audio

For sound, phase, feedback and room, connect your computer via USB to the console or to a separate audio interface. For the spectrum on the X32 and X Air, the console’s RTA is enough.

  4. Start soundcheck

Select channels, “Start soundcheck” – and then apply the suggestions at your own pace.

Stage view

The console on your phone or tablet

Scan the QR code, enter the PIN – on tablets and phones the stage view with large buttons opens automatically.

  • Stop, Main LR fader with mute
  • The console’s mute groups
  • Solo and level per channel
  • Switch to the full view on iPhone and iPad at any time – one tap at the top right is all it takes
  • PIN protection; API key and network settings only on the computer

Safety

You stay in control.

Stop

Stops all running automatic functions, turns off the oscillator and clears solo.

↺ Reset all

Restores every value the program has changed on the console.

Preview | Apply

Sound, phase, room and AI suggestions only go to the console after you click – for previewing or permanently.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which consoles does SoundAssist work with?

Behringer X32 and Midas M32, Behringer X Air (XR18, XR16, XR12) and Midas MR18/MR12, Behringer WING, Soundcraft Ui24R, Ui16 and Ui12, as well as Yamaha DM3 and TF. Anything a console can’t do over the network is hidden by SoundAssist or shown as “set by hand” – more under Supported consoles.

Do I need a USB cable?

For sound, phase, feedback, room and loudness, yes: connect your computer to the console via USB (X32 with X-USB card, XR18, WING, Ui24R) and route the channels to the USB outputs. Consoles without USB audio (XR16, XR12, Ui16, Ui12) need a separate audio interface for this. On the X32 and X Air, the spectrum in the channel view also works without a cable via the built-in RTA – handy on an iPad.

Can I try it without a console?

Yes. In demo mode everything is simulated – the selected console type, audio, feedback, a snare with reversed polarity and room sound.

Which languages is SoundAssist available in?

German, English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), French and Italian. If you don’t choose one, SoundAssist follows your browser’s language. The choice applies per device – the tablet at the stage can run in English, the computer in German. Voice announcements and AI also respond in the language of the device that started them.

Does the app need internet?

No. Everything runs locally and offline. Only the AI assessment and the AI assistant need internet; without a connection they are simply disabled.

What do the AI features cost?

They use Claude by Anthropic with your own API key from the Claude Console. Each request costs a small amount, billed to your Anthropic account. Only measurements and channel info are sent, never audio.

Does the app change anything without asking?

Sound, phase, room and AI suggestions only go to the console after you click – temporarily with “Preview”, permanently with “Apply”. Gain staging, the feedback hunter and automix work on their own once you start them – so use them during soundcheck only, not during the show. “Reset all” undoes every change.

Where are my settings stored?

In ~/.soundassist/config.json (Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.soundassist\config.json), readable only by your user account.
